General Growth Properties recognized the limitations of traditional malls, so Jordan Creek combines the traditional enclosed area called the Shopping District anchored by Dillard's department store, Younkers department store, and Scheels All Sports destination sporting goods and including a Cheesecake Factory destination restaurant and the only Apple Inc. store in Iowa. One anchor space remains vacant.
The Lake District includes a 3.5 acre lake with a boardwalk, the Marriott Hotel and amphitheater. Unfortunately the Marriott is not connected with the Shopping District (enclosed mall) so an outdoor walk is required. The Marriott does not provide a shuttle.
The Village District includes big box retail; Best Buy, Bed Bath & Beyond, Costco Wharehouse (requires paid membership), DSW Shoe Warehouse, Ulta Beauty SuperStore and Old Navy (clothing) among others.
Jordan Creek opened in 2004. According to Wikipedia, Jordan Creek Town Center is the 19th largest mall in the United States and the newest of the top 19.
In 2007 Jordan Creek opened for business at midnight Thanksgiving night and 35,000 people showed up to shop overnight. Store staff, shocked by the turnout, had to call in extra help. In an otherwise weak holiday shopping season it was the busiest day in the history of the mall.
